The Heart and Soul Behind Life Poems
“What Got Me Writing“
I am currently eighteen years old, but my journey as a published author truly began in a high school classroom when I was sixteen. At that specific time, I had been living openly as a transgender teenager for exactly one year. It was a year of profound beauty, but also a year of navigating sharp edges and society’s heavy expectations. When my teacher assigned a major poetry book project to our class, I realized I had a fundamental choice to make. I could write safe, empty lines just to pass the grade, or I could finally exhale.
I chose to exhale. I decided to wear my heart completely on my sleeve and pour every single complicated feeling onto the blank page.

Why I Write
“I’ve wanted to tell stories for as long as I can remember. At different times, I dreamed of becoming a writer, an actor, a playwright, or even a spy. (I eventually accepted that I wasn’t nearly sneaky enough for the last one.)”
For a long time, these poems belonged only to me. They lived in notebooks, helping me make sense of the world. Letting them go and sharing them with others was frightening, but it also became one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve ever made.
“
“Life Poems exists as a physical piece of my heart in the real world. My greatest hope is that my poetry reaches someone who currently feels invisible in their own transition or entirely lost in their daily struggles. I want my words to act as a comforting hand in the dark.”
